UC San Diego men’s water polo players Jack Turner and Kacper Langiewicz will join the Team USA National roster for the 2019 World University Games, USA Water Polo has announced.

They will represent the U.S. at the 30th Summer Universiade from July 2-14 in Naples, Italy. Team USA finished in ninth place finish in 2017.

Turner, a goalkeeper, was part of the FINA World Cup last fall in Berlin, recording eight saves in a victory over South Africa.

The Fremont native, a redshirt junior last season, earned Division II Player of the Year honors after leading UC San Diego to the National Collegiate Water Polo Championship Semifinals. He was an All-Western Water Polo Association First-Team selection and was named WWPA Tournament MVP.

Langiewicz, a redshirt junior, was second on the Tritons with 35 goals and led the team with 53 drawn exclusions en route to landing on the All-WWPA Second Team. The San Marcos native also earned NCAA All-Tournament Second-Team honors.

Stanford has five representatives on the team, UCLA has four, and like UCSD, USC has two.

UC San Diego’s water polo team (20-6) had its second-best winning percentage in program history last season (.769), and finished No. 5 in the nation in the final Top 20 poll. The team won the WWPA Championship for the 19th time in school history.
