The increasing popularity of electric vehicles in San Diego will be on display Saturday when the annual Electric Vehicle Day takes over Qualcomm Stadium.

More than 20 models, including the Chevy Bolt and Volt, Ford Focus Electric and Fusion Energi, Kia Soul, Honda Clarity, BMW i3 and Volkswagen eGolf, will be available for test spins on two different tracks.

San Diego is already home to 25,500 electric vehicles, and Gov. Jerry Brown has set a goal of having 1.5 million on the road across California by 2025 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 9 features a DJ, food trucks, mini electric cars for kids to drive, and a tailgate party for people who already drive electric cars.

The free event is sponsored by San Diego Gas & Electric, Cleantech San Diego and the Center for Sustainable Energy.
