The UC San Diego basketball team wrapped up its 2025 regular season Saturday with its 13th win in a row against UC Davis, officially securing the first seed in the Big West tournament, which begins Wednesday.

Prior to Saturday’s game, UC San Diego beat Long Beach State Thursday 70-63 with a strong second half performance. After the Tritons entered the half with a 10 point lead, they took a lead as big as 22 points to improve to 17-2 in conference.

The win Thursday gave the Tritons a comfortable path to the top overall seed in the Big West. All UC San Diego needed was a win over the 15-16 UC Davis Aggies Saturday, and the Tritons were in control for most of the entire game and came away with win No. 28 68-57.

Saturday against the Aggies, like Thursday against Long Beach State, was a defensive struggle in the first half, and like Thursday, the Tritons took over again in the second half.

Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones and Tyler McGhie led the Tritons in scoring with 20 points each Thursday, while McGhie scored 18 points Saturday to lead the way. The 2025 season ended with Tait-Jones averaging just under 20 points per game.

For a good portion of the season, the Tritons trailed UC Irvine in the Big West standings. Multiple win streaks for the Tritons, aided by a late-season win over the Anteaters, gave UC San Diego the edge in the end for the No. 1 seed heading into Las Vegas for the conference tournament.

Both the Tritons and the Anteaters will benefit from being the top two teams, as both will have five full days in between games, a double-bye and can sit back and watch to see who they will play.

On the Tritons side of the bracket, they will watch UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Bakersfield face off Wednesday. The winner of that will match up against CSUN Thursday, and the Tritons will face the winner of that second game Friday at 5 p.m. PST.
