San Diego State’s Danny O’Neil has received the Mountain West Freshman of the Week for the second week in a row, the first Aztec to win consecutive conference honors since 2021.
Passing for a career-high 254 yards, O’Neil and the Aztecs mounted a fourth quarter comeback for the second game in a row, beating Wyoming 27-24 on the road.
After they went down 24-17 in the opening minutes of the final quarter, O’Neil led two scoring drives. He threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jordan Napier to tie it at 24, then led a drive that resulted in a game-winning field goal.
The Aztecs have won their first two Mountain West games of the season, and are on a bye week before facing a future Pac-12 conference foe when they host Washington State on Oct. 26.
The Cougars are 5-1 on the season, with their only loss being to Boise State on the road. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Snapdragon Stadium.
