The Padres limped out of Philadelphia Sunday having lost three straight, capped by a 7-6 setback in extra innings.

They opened play after the All-Star Break with a victory in the opener against the Phillies, only to drop a twin bill Saturday, along with losing two players to injury, though Fernando Tatis Jr. bounced back from his ankle twist Sunday.

He did contribute – as a pinch hitter, Tatis knocked a bases-loaded single in the eighth inning to drive in two and tie up the game 5-5 – it wasn’t enough. The Padres and Phillies each scored a run in the 10th, and Philadelphia won the game in the 12th on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Schwarber.

Up 3-1 in the sixth, due in part to solo home runs by Ha-Seong Kim and Xander Bogaerts, starter Seth Lugo faltered. He gave up a solo shot to Schwarber, the first of seven straight Phillies to reach base, with the big blow, a two-run double, coming from J.T. Realmuto.

Tom Cosgrove, came in in relief, and despite giving up a single and two walks, one of which forced in Realmuto, mostly contained the damage, and the Padres trailed by just two, 5-3.

“We had obviously some guys down today and at that point in time when he went out, I’m thinking maybe seven, and they put together a big inning on him,” manager Bob Melvin said of his hopes that Lugo could have gone deeper into the game.

That’s because the Friars were a pitcher down. Adrian Morejon, like Tatis, suffered an injury in the second game of Saturday’s double header, but Morejon’s right knee inflammation is more serious. The Padres put him on the 15-day IL.

The Padres, after an off-day Monday, arrive in Toronto for the middle leg of their road trip. The scheduled starters for the three-game set are Joe Musgrove, Yu Darvish and Blake Snell.
