Saturday’s men’s basketball game between UC San Diego and Sacramento State has been canceled due to COVID-19 protocols within Sacramento State’s program.
The Tritons, though, were able to add a game and will host Bethesda University of California (0-2) at 1 p.m. Sunday at RIMAC Arena.
UCSD (3-5) has had to scramble to fill gaps in the schedule after several games were postponed or canceled due to COVID-19 issues.
Following the cancelation of this weekend’s Big West series vs. Hawai’i, UC San Diego added the non-conference game against Sacramento State. The Hornets were originally scheduled to face Northern Arizona.
If the game had gone forward as planned, it would have been the first time the two teams had met in nearly 50 years. The Hornets won 82-64 during the 1974-75 season.
Officials canceled the game after Sacramento State forward Samaad Hector felt sick, and received a COVID-19 test, according to the campus newspaper.
In their last game, the Tritons fell in a non-conference game Jan. 31 at UC Riverside. That game was added when their scheduled opponent, Long Beach State, backed out due to COVID-19.
