The UC San Diego women’s basketball program added two more transfers for the 2019-20 season.
Sophomore Sydney Brown and junior Issy Parker each signed National Letters of Intent to attend UCSD, as both are transferring from Division-I institutions.
“We’re very excited to add both Sydney and Issy,” UC San Diego head coach Heidi VanDerveer said. “They bring different dimensions to our team and complement our core. They are really great additions to our program.”
Brown is a 6-foot-tall guard and forward from Rexford, N.Y. who is transferring from Columbia University. Parker is a 6-foot-2 forward from Brisbane, Australia who is transferring from University of the Pacific.
“Coming from Australia and playing international basketball, she has the skillset to step out and extend her range, while also having the ability to work in the low post,” VanDerVeer said of Parker. “She will complement our team and the way we play.”
The Tritons previously announced the additions of junior guard Tyla Turner, freshman guard Hanna Beckman and freshman forward Emerson Herrmann on May 31.
VanDerveer anticipates the influx of new talent will mesh well with the team’s returning players.
“I’m excited about our returning core, and the five players coming in will help them in our quest to improve every day and be competitive both in our league and nationally,” she said.
UCSD (30-1) won the California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament and regular season championships last season. The team had the top seed in the NCAA West Region and made it to the region semifinals. UCSD ranked sixth in the final WBCA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.
