The San Diego State University women’s track team finished second in the Mountain West Track and Field Championships this weekend at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis.

San Diego State trailed champion Colorado State, but finished ahead of UNLV in the meet hosted by Fresno State. The Aztecs won the title last year.

The team was led by the 400 M relay team – Sakura Roberson, Lisa-Anne Barrow, Jalyn Harris and Nykari McNeil – and pole vaulter Bonnie Draxler, who each lodged first-place finishes in their events.

In the pole vault competition, Draxler led a field that included four Aztecs among the top-five finishers. Alysia Allen finished second, while Marissa Berry and Kaitlin Heri finished fourth and fifth. Aztec pole vaulters rank No. 3 in the nation.

Several Aztecs grabbed second places in their events – in the 200 M, Callista Fletcher; 400 M, Jalyn Harris, and 400 M hurdles, Maya Brosch.

Finishing third were: in the 800 M, McNeil; 400 M hurdles, Nia Collins; 100 M relay, Fletcher, Harris, Draxler and Danae Dyer, and heptathlon, Asia Smith.

Smith was just two points behind second-place finisher Stella Clemons of UNLV.
