The Poinsettia Bowl’s Gaslamp March, one of the bowl season’s favorite off-stadium family events in San Diego, will entertain fans in downtown Monday.
The marching bands and spirit squads from Brigham Young and Wyoming universities will perform at the free event, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the new park along Broadway in front of Horton Plaza.
“Year after year this makes for an exhilarating kickoff to the Poinsettia Bowl festivities that all can enjoy,” said Mark Neville, executive director of the San Diego Bowl Game Association. “This is an exciting and loud procession that makes for a great free, family event down in the Gaslamp Quarter.”
The Gaslamp March is two days before the schools’ football teams meet in the Poinsettia Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium.
Players from the two teams will also visit SeaWorld San Diego Monday, having made separate visits to the San Diego Zoo on Sunday.
“It’s good to come back to the zoo because I’m a bit of an animal myself on the football field,” Brigham Young punter Jonny Linehan told CBS8.
The teams will make a joint visit to the USS Midway Museum on Tuesday for the annual team luncheon.
