Starter Andrew Cashner pitched the early innings out the game with the Texas Rangers
Starter Andrew Cashner will have a new home for the first time since 2012.

The San Diego Padres and Miami Marlins agreed to another deal on Friday morning, sending pitchers Andrew Cashner and Colin Rea to South Beach.

They will join fellow former Padres pitcher Fernando Rodney on the playoff contending squad.

Cashner was on the trade block for months, with many reports linking him to the Texas Rangers, but the deal never materialized.

As part of the seven-player deal, the Padres will receive young right-handed pitchers Jared Cosart and Carter Capps, and also send over pitching prospect Tayvon Guerrero.

The Marlins are also sending West pitching prospect Luis Castillo and young first baseman Josh Naylor.

Cosart and Capps have spent some time in the majors this year, with Capps having the most success, compiling a 1-0 record with a 1.16 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 31 innings pitched.

Castillo has no relation to former Marlin infielder Luis Castillo.

The 23-year-old has a 7-3 record with a 2.25 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 20 appearances – 18 of them starts – in the minor leagues this season.

The biggest piece, however, is 19-year-old Josh Naylor, who was listed as the Marlins’ third-best prospect earlier this season.
