The San Diego Padres dealt 39-year-old closer Fernando Rodney to the Miami Marlins on Thursday afternoon.

Rodney, who has been electric in his first year with the Padres, signed a one-year, $2 million contract in February.

He had 17 saves and maintained a 0.31 ERA in 28 appearances this season.

In return, the Padres will receive Class- A RHP Chris Paddack.

An eight round draft pick in 2015, Paddack has shined in the minors, posting a 2-0 record with a 0.95 ERA in 6 starts.
