It was announced that San Diego State Football was unanimously voted as the favorites to win the Mountain West’s West Division in 2016.

The 2015 MW champs received 29 of the possible 29 votes, becoming just the second team to do so (TCU in 2010).

This projection is coming off the heels of an 11-3 season that culminated in a MW Championship game victory over Air Force Academy.

In addition, the Aztecs swept the three highest individual honors.

Senior running back Donnel Pumphrey was named the preseason MW Offensive Player of the Year, an award he took home last season.

Senior cornerback Damontae Kazee was projected to win the MW DPOY, which he also won last year.

And completing the sweep was junior running back Rashaad Penny, who took home the preseason MW STPOY.

Penny, unsurprisingly, won the award at the end of the 2015 season.

The three players were also named to the all-MW preseason team, an honor they share with three other Aztecs.

Those three players were senior offensive lineman Nico Siragusa, senior linebacker Calvin Munson, and senior defensive end Alex Barrett.

SDSU will look to live up to the hype beginning with its season opener against the University of New Hampshire on September 3.
