The team announced Monday that McCoy would be retained for next season, but now his contract will run through 2017.
There will be a lot to build around for 2016 as six assistant coaches were fired, including offensive coordinator Frank Reich.
Reports before the team’s final game against the Broncos indicated McCoy might be on the hot seat after leading the team to its worst record since 2003.
McCoy’s extension points to the team’s confidence in the head coach despite a possible move to Los Angeles.
