Among the seemingly countless  San Diego Chargers injured in the team’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens, none may be as serious or shocking than the news  that wide receiver Keenan Allen has been hospitalized with a kidney injury.

Allen was hospitalized Sunday in San Diego Sunday and will remain overnight Monday, according to NFL Network.

“As I learn more, we’ll give you more information on that, so he’ll miss some time,” coach Mike McCoy said to The San Diego Union-Tribune. “I’m not going to put a timetable on it as you guys know, and I don’t have enough information at this point in time, either. So we’re dealing with that and a number of things also.”

Allen has had a breakout and season and currently leads the AFC with 67 catches, only trailing Atlanta Falcons wideout Julio Jones (70) for the NFL lead.

It’s tied for the third-most catches of all-time at the Week 8 mark of the season. Only Marvin Harrison (69)  and Julio Jones (this season) have had more receptions through the first eight weeks of an NFL season.

Allen appeared to injure himself after making a 13-yard touchdown catch over two defenders on the final play of the first half. He did not return after that play.
