In a week that has been marred by injuries to the offensive line, the San Diego Chargers took another hit when they announced Tuesday that right guard Johnnie Troutman was placed on the season-ending injured reserve.
Troutman broke his forearm on Aug. 13, and said Monday he would “definitely” be back on the field at some point this season.
However, with injuries to three starting offensive lineman, the team needed to add a healthy lineman to the 53-man roster.
Undrafted rookie tackle Tyreek Burwell will be activated from the practice squad to take Troutman’s place, according to a San Diego Union Tribune report.
Burwell has flip-flopped between the active roster and practice squad through the first three games.
Replacing Burwell on the practice squad will be center-guard Michael Huey, according to the report. Huey spent training camp with the Chargers and was on the practice squad for the first two games of the season before being released heading into Week 3.
The team also announced that it has waved tight end Kyle Miller, leaving one open roster spot.
Miller was signed last week after Ladarius Green was forced to miss the team’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings due to a concussion.
