A stadium proposal agreed upon by Goldman Sachs and San Diego Chargers owner Dean Spanos reported by a CBS Sports radio station in St. Louis last Friday is not true according to the team.
“Although we have worked for years with Goldman Sachs as our investment banker, the remainder of the story is untrue,” Chargers special counsel Mark Fabiani said to ESPN.
The report comes in light of St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s plan to develop an 80,000 seat stadium in Inglewood, California, despite the disapproval of the NFL.
This ruffled the feathers of the Chargers front office.
“(Spanos is) very, very unhappy that all of sudden Kroenke goes ahead and does his thing without the NFL’s approval,” CBS Radio host Andy Strickland said.
Mayor Kevin Faulconer is expected to convene a task force of civic leaders in the coming weeks, that will hopefully come up with a stadium resolution in the fall.
