Southwestern College has announced that it will play host to the San Diego section high school football championships this fall.

The games are usually played at Qualcomm Stadium but won’t be this year because of the Chargers’ schedule.

According to the college, the contests will take place at the newly renovated DeVore Stadium at the end of November and beginning of December.

“We’re excited to have the type of venue and opportunity for the CIF championship games to have a great experience,” said Terry Davis, Southwestern College athletic director and dean of the School of Health, Exercise Science, Athletics and Applied Technology.

An agreement in which the California Interscholastic Federation San Diego section will pay the college $53,000 to stage the games is slated to go before Southwestern’s governing board Nov. 12.

According to the college, one game will be played Friday, Nov. 28; two more on Friday, Dec. 5; and the final three on Saturday, Dec. 6.

A $389 million, two-year renovation project was completed at the stadium in time for the football season, and included a new classroom building and student health facility. Both the college team and nearby Bonita Vista High School play there.
