Trailing, 1-0 for much of the game, the Padre’s fortunes changed when pinch-hitter Seth Smith knocked a home run to right field  at the beginning the eighth inning, tying the score.

By the end of the eighth inning, the score was 3-1.

Following a day off on Monday, the teams resume their three-game series at 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday.
