Former San Diego city council member and now San Diego County Water Authority board chair Jim Madaffer has endorsed Patrick Batten in the race for council District 5.
“I proudly endorse Patrick Batten because of his leadership and experience,” said Madaffer. “Before Patrick joined the Marine Corps he worked for the County of San Diego and the State Assembly handling policy issues, including water. His experience provides an understanding of the nuances of California’s water policy.”
Batten, a manager of public affairs for Southwest Strategies, is currently a member of the Rancho Bernardo Community Council and the Rancho Bernardo Maintenance Assessment District Board.
“Our campaign is growing in strength from these exceptional endorsements,” said Batten. “Jim Madaffer leads one of San Diego’s most valuable institutions and it’s truly an honor to receive his support.”
Batten will face Deputy City Attorney Marni von Wilpert, attorney Joe Leventhal and technology entrepreneur Isaac Wang in the March 2020 primary.
The district, which includes Scripps Ranch, Rancho Penasquitos, Rancho Bernardo and the San Pasqual Valley, is currently represented by Councilmember Mark Kersey, who is termed out.
