Rep. Darrell Issa on Friday applauded the FBI’s decision to continue its investigation of Hillary Clinton‘s use of a private email server while serving as Secretary of State.
Issa, who endorsed Donald Trump for president and is facing a close race against Democratic challenger Doug Applegate, said the FBI’s announcement “makes clear that Hillary Clinton’s continued efforts to deceive the public on her actions that willingly put classified information at risk need to come to an end.”
FBI Director James Comey informed lawmakers in a letter that the agency “has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to this investigation.” He said the emails would be reviewed, adding that “the FBI cannot yet assess whether or not this material may be significant.”
As chair of of the House Oversight Committee, Issa led several investigations into Clinton’s actions as secretary of state.
“With the FBI re-opening their investigation, it’s important that this time we get it right,” said Issa, now a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee. “As a representative of more than 42,000 Marines at Camp Pendleton many of whom handle classified information every day, it’s critical that Clintons and other well-connected elites are held to the same standards they are.”
