Plans for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton to come to California Monday and Tuesday for a planned series of campaign fundraisers were canceled Sunday following a diagnosis of pneumonia.
When asked if two Tuesday fundraisers in the Beverly Hills area would be held without Clinton present, Miryam Lipper, a regional communications director for the campaign, told City News Service, “No update on that right now.”
The 68-year-old Clinton spent 90 minutes at a ceremony in New York City marking the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, leaving before it ended.
“During the ceremony, she felt overheated so departed to go to her daughter’s apartment and is feeling much better,” campaign traveling press secretary Nick Merrill said in a statement.
The campaign later issued a statement from Clinton’s doctor, Dr. Lisa R. Bardack, who examined her at her home in Chappaqua, New York: “Secretary Clinton has been experiencing a cough related to allergies. On Friday, during follow up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. She was put on anitbiotics and advised to rest and modify her schedule.
“While at this morning’s event, she became overheated and dehydrated. I have just examined her and she is now re-hydrated and recovering nicely.”
Tickets for a luncheon Tuesday that includes a performance by singer Lionel Richie begin at $5,000 per person, according to an invitation obtained by City News Service.
Individuals paying $10,000 will be designated as a co-host and receive preferred seating. A contribution of $33,400 or raising $50,000 will result in preferred seating and having their picture taken with Clinton.
The $33,400 figure is the maximum amount an individual can contribute to a national party committee in a year.
Tickets are $100,000 per couple for a dinner at the home of Barry Diller, the chairman and senior executive of the media and internet company IAC and the travel company Expedia, Inc., and his fashion designer wife, Diane von Furstenberg.
