Chris Ward announced Thursday that he has raised nearly $100,000 in his campaign for Todd Gloria’s District 3 seat on the San Diego City Council.

Ward, who is currently chief of staff to state Sen. Marty Block, said his campaign raised over $86,000 from 438 individuals between June 7 and June 30. Counting a previous loan he main to the campaign, total receipts to date total over $94,000.

“I’m grateful to the hundreds of District 3 residents who stepped up and offered support at this early stage of my campaign,” said Ward.  “These contributions are an expression of their confidence in my ability to lead our district forward, and I greatly appreciate them.”

Ward, who lives in University Heights with his partner and baby daughter, faces Anthony Bernal, a long-time member of Gloria’s staff. Gloria is finishing his second term and cannot run for a third.
