The Republican front-runner in a Florida Congressional race has adopted Carl DeMaio’s “Fix Congress First” plan, giving the San Diego Republican more national publicity.

Carl Domino, who is running in Florida’s 18th Congressional District, told the Palm Beach Post that he adopted DeMaio’s plan and added additional provisions.

The Post said Domino “acknowledges that his campaign got the idea from another Republican candidate with a similar name — Carl DeMaio.”

DeMaio’s plan would force House member sto live by the same laws as their constituents, including giving up many perks.

“When I unveiled my Fix Congress First plan, I realized it was ambitious in calling for wholesale change in how Congress operates and it would require a national campaign to get it passed,” DeMaio said Monday. “I’m thrilled to see these ideas for cutting Congressional perks and imposing tough accountability on Congress are gaining national momentum.”

DeMaio noted that a number of Democrats have also talked about cutting perks and introducing similar legislation.

DeMaio faces incumbent Rep. Scott Peters, a Democrat, in the election to represent the 52nd District, which covers much of central San Diego County including Poway, Coronado, and large portions of the City of San Diego.
