A sailor aboard the San Diego-based aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson was injured Friday evening when he was struck by an aircraft being towed on the flight deck.

The Navy said the sailor, whose identity was not immediately released, was flown by helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital in stable condition with a non-life threatening injury.

The Vinson is off the coast of Southern California conducting a training exercise.

The Navy said an investigation into the mishap is underway.
