Original post:

Expect smoke in the vicinity of the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar as base personnel conduct prescribed burns Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Fire Department is scheduled to oversee the burns at East Miramar. During the same period Saturday, MCAS Miramar Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting will conduct training in a series of controlled-burn exercises, according to an MCAS statement.

While some flames and smoke may be visible in East Miramar, West Sycamore Canyon, the Scripps Ranch community and along freeway corridors, no visibility restrictions are expected, the statement continued.

Prescribed burns are conducted to remove hazardous fuel growth and are part of the air station’s annual vegetation-management program to reduce the risk of wildfires, according to the statement.
