The U.S. Coast Guard and city lifeguards searched for a second day Monday in hopes of finding a 23-year-old man who disappeared while taking a weekend swim near Sunset Cliffs.

Brian Wilson was reported missing shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sunday after becoming separated from a companion in the surf off the foot of Santa Cruz Avenue, according to USCG public affairs.

A Coast Guard cutter crew patrolled the ocean in the area through the night, and was joined at daybreak by a helicopter and 45-foot response boat.

Lifeguards searched underwater and along the shoreline for Wilson.
