U.S. forces, including jets from the San Diego-based USS Carl Vinson, continue to hit ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq, with 15 airstrikes over a 24-hour period ended Sunday morning.

The attacks by U.S. and coalition military forces are aimed at stopping the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, known as ISIL or ISIS. Operation Inherent Resolve began last August.

Defense Department officials reported the following strikes over the 24-hour period ended 8 a.m. Sunday morning local time.

Syria

Attack jets and remotely-piloted aircraft conducted three airstrikes:

  • Near Hasakah, two airstrikes struck an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed five fighting positions and an ISIS vehicle.
  • Near Raqqah, an airstrike destroyed an ISIS armored personnel carrier.

Iraq

Attack, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft conducted 12 airstrikes:

  • Near Qaim, an airstrike destroyed an ISIS vehicle.
  • Near Beiji, an airstrike struck an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed an ISIS vehicle.
  • Near Fallujah, two airstrikes struck 10 improvised explosive device facilities.
  • Near Mosul, five airstrikes struck an ISIS tactical unit and an ISIS IED production facility and destroyed two ISIS fighting positions and an ISIS vehicle.
  • Near Ramadi, an airstrike destroyed an ISIS heavy machine gun and an ISIS vehicle.
  • Near Sinjar, an airstrike struck an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed an ISIS fighting position, an ISIS heavy machine gun and an ISIS building.
  • Near Tal Afar, an airstrike struck an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed an ISIS heavy machine gun and an ISIS fighting position.

Coalition nations involved are the United States, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Jordan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
