Move over nightlife – pickleball is taking over downtown San Diego. Starting Thursday, the Gaslamp Quarter is serving up Gaslamp Urban Pickleball, a weekly open-air celebration of the nation’s fastest-growing sport.
Every Thursday through Sept. 25, from 4 p.m. until sunset, 5th Avenue and Island will transform into a pickleball playground with courts popping up in the heart of the city, live music and players of all skill levels rallying for bragging rights (and prizes).
The action doesn’t stop when the matches do. Expect a Game Day Market with gear and wellness goods, the “Wheel of Serves” for a shot at prizes and post-game celebrations with exclusive Paddle Hour drink specials at nearby bars and restaurants.
Players can pre-register or walk up on the day of to play ($25 entry). Please bring paddles, or rent one on-site while supplies last. Each week also offers “Spin to Win” giveaways featuring pickleball gear and gift cards to local Gaslamp favorites.
