The city of San Diego closed Ocean Beach Municipal Pier on Friday due to high surf.

Lifeguards expect to keep the structure at 1850 Ocean Front St. off-limits to the public as a safety precaution through Saturday morning, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The National Weather Service expects a long period west-northwest swell from 290 degrees to create surf of 4-9 feet with local sets up to 11 feet along San Diego beaches.

A high-surf advisory is in effect until Sunday afternoon.
