Dozer, 3,000-pound male walrus, is back at SeaWorld San Diego after a breeding visit to the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma, WA.
The a 24-year-old is one of only 15 walruses in accredited zoos and aquariums in the United States, and the institutions work together to breed the threatened sea mammals.
Walruses are classed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature because their native arctic region is warming twice as fast as the rest of the planet.
Dozer was born at SeaWorld San Diego and has lived at all three SeaWorld parks. There are two other walruses in SeaWorld’s Wild Arctic exhibit, a 5-year-old male and 7-year-old female.
