The first day of 2017 in San Diego will be partly cloudy and cool in the wake of a New Year’s Eve storm that that soaked the coast and dumped snow in the mountains.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for a high of 59 on Sunday with a slight chance of lingering showers.

The Saturday night storm dampened New Year’s Eve celebrations with .53 inches of rain in Carlsbad, .38 in Imperial Beach, .68 at Lindbergh Field, .34 in La Jolla, .83 in Mission Valley and .71 in Santee.

Snow was reported above 3,500 feet, and Interstate 5 was closed for several hours north of Los Angeles.

“Lingering showers are likely, mainly in San Diego County, and the Riverside and San Bernardino Mountains, through this morning,” according to the weather service. “Snow  levels finally tumbled down to around 3,500-4,000 feet about the time the ball dropped in NYC last evening.”
