The San Diego International Film Festival is underway with more than 100 films being screened at La Jolla at ArcLight Cinema and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Films planned for the festival include “The Cliff,” “Demimonde” and “No Pay, Nudity.” The festival will close with “The Eagle Huntress,” which follows Aisholpan, a 13-year-old girl, as she trains to become the first female in twelve generations of her Kazakh family to become an eagle hunter.

Of course, there will also be star-studded parties including “theHUB” on Friday night. The party at Horton Plaza will include live music and art, entertainment, food trucks, complimentary beverages and games in the beer garden.

Here are some other events happening this weekend:

5K on the Beach

Champions for Health, a nonprofit formerly known as the San Diego County Medical Society Foundation, will raise money to launch a new diabetes prevention program, at its third annual Solana Beach Sunset 5K. About 900 walkers and runners are expected to participate on Saturday at Fletcher Cove Park. Registration and a wellness expo begin at 3 p.m., and the 5K begins at 4 p.m. Registration costs are $45 for individuals and $25 for children under age 15. For information, go to www.SB5k.org.

Autism Speaks Walk

A different kind of 5K will be hosted in another part of San Diego County. “Autism Speaks Walk” will take place Saturday at Liberty Station. The family-friendly event, which is hosted by Autism Speaks, the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization, will feature kid-friendly activities, live entertainment and a resource fair with more than 50 community vendors. The event begins at 8 a.m. with the walk taking place at 10 a.m. For more information, go to autismspeakswalk.org/sandiego.

La Mesa Oktoberfest

La Mesa will host its annual Oktoberfest this weekend. The event includes a massive street festival with numerous vendors, a beer garden, plenty of food and live entertainment, The 43rd annual event, which takes place on La Mesa Boulevard between Spring and 4th streets, runs from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Encinitas Oktoberfest

If you’re in North County, check out the annual Oktoberfest in Encinitas. The Encinitas event, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, will feature more than 200 vendors, live music and activities for the kids. It will also feature a parade. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday on Mountain Vista Drive and El Camino Real.
