A motorcyclist who crashed his two-wheeler at an Otay Mesa intersection Wednesday wound up impaled in the leg with its kickstand, authorities reported.

The 29-year-old man lost control of his 2006 Suzuki shortly before 9 a.m. while trying to turn from eastbound Iris Avenue onto southbound Howard Avenue at excessive speed, according to San Diego police.

The skidding motorcycle hit two cars stopped for a red light in northbound lanes at the road crossing and fell onto the pavement along with the rider, who then got stabbed in his lower left leg by the kickstand, Officer Frank Cali said.

Medics took the man to a hospital to have the piece of equipment removed and to be treated for other injuries.

The motorists whose vehicles were struck by the motorcycle were unhurt, Cali said.
