San Diego International Airport Tuesday welcomed its newest airline, Breeze Airways, and its first local nonstop flight — from North Carolina via Raleigh-Durham International Airport to SAN.

Breeze is the 17th airline to offer service from San Diego and will bring several destinations to the area currently not serviced by other airlines, including Raleigh-Durham, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, Norfolk and Pittsburgh.

“We welcome Breeze Airways to San Diego International Airport,” said Hampton Brown, vice president and chief revenue officer of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. “With their five new nonstop routes, travelers from Southern California will have convenient access to exciting destinations across the country.”

The airline will also offer daily one-stop/no plane change flights to Providence, Rhode Island, and Hartford, Connecticut.

“We’re thrilled to add service to San Diego, our fifth destination in California, as we introduce five brand new nonstops and two direct destinations from San Diego International,” Breeze Airways Founder and CEO David Neeleman said. “Now San Diegans won’t have to connect when traveling to these seven locations, getting there twice as fast for around half the price, and travelers from those cities will have fast and affordable travel opportunities to come enjoy San Diego.”

Breeze Airways will be located in SAN’s Terminal 2. Routes from San Diego will be operated with Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
