Grab the kiddos and head to the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum in Escondido this Saturday.

The museum will host its “Roots” series, with organizers focusing on Puerto Rico this weekend.

This event, which takes place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., will feature cultural performances and activities highlighting the diverse traditions of Puerto Rico, including a dance performance by Angie Freeman’s Reinitas Borincanas of the House of Puerto Rico, a music performance by Walter Rivera El Jibarito and storytelling by Literature Comes to Life.

The museum hosts six “Roots” events each year, with the goal of helping attendees learn more about different cultures. All the events are free and open to the public.

Here are some other events happening this weekend:

Movie at Waterfront Park

Enjoy downtown’s beloved Waterfront Park on Friday night, while watching “Inside Out.” The animated film tells the story of a young girl moving from Minnesota to San Francisco, and the five different emotions she experiences. The event, which runs from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., includes games, music, giveaways and food trucks. Dogs are also allowed to the free screening.

Chula Vista Harbor Festival

Chula Vista’s Bayside Park will come live this Saturday with the Harbor Festival. The free event includes three stages with live entertainment, including DJ Number Juan, Santana Soul and Manny Cepeda Orchestra. Festival-goers can also expect a pet expo, an extreme sports area, an animal encounter, and a discovery zone for the kids. Of course, there will be plenty of food including a “Taco and Spirits Revolution,” craft beer and wine tastings and a food truck alley. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Twainfest

Celebrate American writer Mark Twain this weekend in Old Town San Diego. Write Out Loud will host the Twainfest to celebrate Twain and other great 19th century writers. Attendees will hear works from Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson and Edgar Allan Poe, among others. The festival, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, will be complete with plenty of games and activities.

Beer Festival

Head to the Maritime Museum for its Sip N’ Ship Beer Festival this Saturday. The beer festival, which will take place on the San Diego Bay, will allow attendees to indulge in numerous craft beers while enjoying live entertainment. Attendees will also be able to explore the museum’s vessels and taste goodies from different food trucks. The event takes place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with tickets starting at $35.
