Extremely hot weather will continue Saturday in the deserts as the region’s record-breaking heat wave goes into a sixth day, but more seasonal temperatures are expected elsewhere in San Diego County.
A National Weather Service excessive heat warning for the deserts has expired and a similar notice for the mountains was canceled after predicted high temperatures fell below the 100-degree threshold.
Saturday’s forecast calls for party cloudy skies and temperatures in the 70s at the beaches, in the mid-70s to low 80s inland and in the 80s in the western valleys.
Although the extreme heat is subsiding, forecasters said “very warm” weather and above-average temperatures would continue today. Another round of hot weather is expected Sunday into early next week.
Forecasters advised the public to avoid potentially serious heat-related ailments by staying well-hydrated, avoiding unnecessary outdoor labor and checking on neighbors and relatives — especially those with health conditions and who lack air conditioning.
Authorities also warned against leaving children or pets in parked cars, which can quickly become death traps in high heat.
