Rancho Peñasquitos finally has its own farmers’ market.

The market, which will be at the Rancho Family YMCA on Saturdays, will bring locally-grown items such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, nuts, herbs, honey, jams, and eggs to the residents of Rancho Peñasquitos on a weekly basis.

Councilmen Chris Cate and Mark Kersey will celebrate the grand opening this weekend with a ribbon cutting.

“The Rancho Family YMCA’s Farmers Market will help build a stronger and healthier community,” Kersey said in a press release. “I look forward to the residents of Rancho Peñasquitos having a new place to buy local foods and support local farmers.”

Cate and Kersey will also present a $10,000 check to the Rancho Family YMCA on behalf of the city of San Diego in support of the market.

Rancho Peñasquitos is one of San Diego’s larger neighborhoods, with 55,000 residents calling the community their home.
