Continuing influxes of rain-driven contamination into the United States from the Tijuana River prompted San Diego health officials today to extend a border-area ocean pollution alert into Coronado.
The warning, issued Wednesday, initially was limited to the shorelines of Border Field State Park, Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge and Imperial Beach.
On Thursday afternoon, evidence of continued infusions of sewage-fouled flows from Baja California prompted the county Department of Environmental Health to expand the advisory area to include the entirety of Silver Strand State Beach.
Signs warning of pollution hazards will stand in the subject locations until follow-up testing deems them safe again for recreational use.
