La Jolla Festival of the Arts

The 28th Annual La Jolla Festival of the Arts returns June 21-22, bringing guests the finest in art, cuisine, fine wine, craft beer and live entertainment, including American Idol finalist, Casey Abrams.

For the past 27 years, this fine arts festival produced by the Torrey Pines Kiwanis Foundation (TPKF) has brought the West’s most established artists to San Diego with proceeds benefiting San Diegans with disabilities. Nearly 200 artists have passed through the rigorous jury process and will showcase their work in painting, sculpture, photography, glass, jewelry, ceramics, wood, fiber and mixed media.

The LJFA runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are available at www.ljfa.org and are $11 for a single-day pass or $13 for a weekend pass; tickets at the door are $14 for a single day and $16 for the weekend.

San Diego International Beer Festival

Here’s another reason to go the San Diego County Fair this weekend. While San Diego is known for its beer, it’s still nice to venture out taste what others have to offer. Guests can sample more than 400 beers from around the world, as well as some local favorites.

The festival goes on through the weekend, but you will need to purchase a tasting ticket in addition to fair ticket. General admission tickets cost $58, while tickets to the VIP Brewer’s Lounge run for $100.

Country Run 5K

If you love the County Fair, a fan of Country music and can’t wait to be there before anyone else, here’s your chance. Join the Country Run 5K and you’ll get a chance to frolic through the fair and listen to some Country jam. Organizers encourage participants to break out their overalls, jean shorts, plaid shirts, over-sized belt buckles, and chaps (if you’ve got ’em).

The $54 registration fee includes admission to the fair, $10 off tickets to the Beer Festival, a free ticket to the Fair for use on another day and a cowboy hat (yee-haw!).

Also included, a BBQ Tailgate party afterward with a complimentary beer.

Fairy Festival

Summer time is when the fairies come out to play. Although, capturing one of those illusive fairies is harder than it looks. Fret not! This Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., your little ones can meet some real, live fairies in person at the San Diego Botanic Garden.

Your wee ones can come dressed as their favorite fairies (no adults in costumes, sorry parents), make a fairy house and create some fairy treasures. The Fairy Festival is free with admission to the garden or for members.

re:sound

There’s nothing more invigorating than the sounds of Taiko drums. This Sunday, San Diego Taiko will blow you away with its repertoire of modern and traditional styles of Taiko.

The group draws its influence from the multi- and intercultural background of its members.

Founded in 2004, San Diego Taiko has performed at numerous community, corporate, nonprofit and private events as well as cross-border festivities in Tijuana and Ensenada.

re:sound will be presented at 3 p.m. Sunday the the North Park Theatre, 2891 University Ave. Tickets are $17 general admission and $13 for youth and students.
