Palomar Health, California’s largest healthcare district, is the recipient of multiple honors in clinical excellence at both of its medical campuses in Escondido and Poway.

The recognition was a result of research conducted by Healthgrades, a resource for consumers to find hospitals or doctors.

Healthgrades awarded Palomar Health’s Escondido campus with a five-star rating for hip replacement and hip fracture treatment for the 10th consecutive year.

The healthcare system also received:

  • Specialty Excellence Award: Top 10% in orthopedic surgery (ninth consecutive year)
  • Specialty Excellence Award: Top 5% in spine surgery (third consecutive year)
  • Five-star rating: spinal fusion surgery (fifth consecutive year at the Escondido campus)
  • Five-star rating: hip fracture treatment (fourth consecutive year at the Poway campus)

These achievements place Palomar Health in the upper ranks of hospitals nationally for specialty care “and reflect the organization’s commitment to consistently delivering the best care possible” officials said.

“We’re thrilled to be nationally recognized by Healthgrades once again, showcasing our dedication to excellence in healthcare,” says Diane Hansen, president and CEO of Palomar Health. “Our success is a result of significant investments in state-of-the-art technology, streamlined processes and the dedication of our entire extraordinary team. We continue to push the boundaries of excellence, innovate and (provide) better outcomes for the community, ensuring that the patients receive the best possible care and experience.”

Healthgrades evaluates hospitals based on clinical outcomes, risk-adjusted mortality and complications.

The 2024 hospital assessment evaluated patient mortality and complication rates for 35 common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to identify the top performers.

“Healthgrades congratulates Palomar Health for being a national leader and demonstrating a deep commitment to providing high quality care to all patients,” said Dr. Brad Bowman, chief medical officer who oversees aata science at Healthgrades.
