San Diego County reported 1,651 new COVID-19 cases and 21 additional virus-related deaths Tuesday.
Tuesday’s data increased the county’s cumulative coronavirus totals to 716,677 cases and 4,832 deaths since the pandemic began.
The number of COVID-positive patients in county hospitals dropped by 17 people to 942, according to the latest state data. The number of those patients in intensive care dropped to 169 Tuesday, seven fewer than Monday.
Available ICU beds increased by six to 188.
A total of 22,822 new tests were reported Tuesday with a positivity rate of 14.6%, down from 17.1% on Friday. The county reports this statistic every Tuesday and Friday.
On Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state will lift its indoor mask-wearing requirement for vaccinated people on Feb. 15, but it will remain in effect for unvaccinated people.
The state’s move means the requirement will be lifted in San Diego County.
