An East County school board will consider two items Tuesday that could lead to the elimination of teaching, administrative and classified positions.

Eighty-six jobs are on the line, according to two human resources items on the agenda for the Grossmont Union High School District.

The district will ask “to reduce or eliminate 53.0 full-time equivalent certificated administrative and/or teaching positions (including 1.0 FTE vacant positions),” and for the corresponding number of employees to “receive notice that their services will no longer be required for the 2024-2025 school year.”

Additionally, the district will seek “to reduce or eliminate 33.0 full-time equivalent classified positions,” also asking that the corresponding number of employees “receive notice that their services will no longer be required” for the upcoming school year.

In both cases, the board must act, according to the agenda, because provisions of the Education Code require that initial notices be provided to employees “whose services will no longer be required” by March 15, three days after the board meets.

The documents outline the certificated positions, including 10 jobs identified as “director II,” nine program specialists, nine vice principals, seven curriculum specialists, four “teachers on special assignment” and three digital learning coaches.

The classified positions include 13 administrative assistants, five interpreters, two directors and two office assistants.

The district oversees 10 high schools, three charter schools and adult education, technical and special education programs.
