The University of San Diego announced Monday the selection of international management educator Dr. Jaime Alonso Gómez as the new dean of its business school.
Gomez, who has been affiliated with USD for more than 20 years, will begin his new role on Aug. 17.
“Dr. Gómez has been a highly successful dean, respected by his peers in business schools around the world,” said Andrew T. Allen, vice president and provost of the Catholic university.
“His proven skill in managing a complex organization and recognized global leadership in business education will make him a tremendous asset to USD’s School of Business Administration and to our university as a whole,” Allen added.
Gomez earned his PhD at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Before joining USD, he served as founding dean of the Graduate School of Business Administration and Leadership at Tec de Monterrey campuses in Mexico City and Monterrey.
“I look forward with enthusiasm to serving as dean of the School of Business Administration at the University of San Diego,” Gómez said. “We will continue to enhance the quality, value, visibility and reputation of the school.
“I also look forward to being a part of the thriving San Diego business and civic community and the opportunities it provides,” he added.
Former dean David Pyke decided to step down earlier this summer after seven years and will continue as a professor at the school.
