With a $1 million endowment gift, the Francis Parker School has created the first endowed chair position in the private school’s 102-year history.
Chris Harrington, a faculty member since 1991, was named the first Vassiliadis Family Chair in English.
Harrington teaches 11th grade English while serving as English department chair for Parker’s middle and upper Schools. He is a San Diego native and alumnus of UC San Diego and Boston College.
Carol Vassiliadis, a former member of the board of trustees and parent of two Parker graduates, established the chair to recognize an exceptional faculty member who embodies excellence in education.
Head of School Kevin Yaley praised Harrington for his “masterful knowledge of subject matter and and the ability to inspire and engage students and faculty. We, and the Vassiliadis Family, are delighted that you will be the first to carry the distinction of Endowed Department Chair.”
Established in 1912, the school offers a rigorous, college-preparatory education for students in junior kindergarten through grade 12 at campuses in Mission Hills and Linda Vista.
