With Southern California in the grip of a heat wave, the San Diego Unified School District said Saturday its schools that are not fully air-conditioned will schedule a minimum day on Monday.

The district said the decision was based on forecasts of local temperatures of 95 degrees and higher, with a heat index of 103 and higher, a combination classified by the National Weather Service as “dangerous” to heath.

Complete lists of schools that will have a regular day and those that will have a minimum day were posted online.

The district said bus schedules will be adjusted to accommodate the minimum day schedules. It is also partnering with the YMCA to provide after-school options for affected schools.

Other districts are also planning minimum days. The National School District has notified families it will operate all ten of its schools on minimum days Monday and Tuesday. The Coronado Unified School District announced it will have a minimum day Monday.

San Diego Unified said it will decide by noon on Monday whether to schedule another minimum day.
