A trial date of Sept. 8 has been set for a woman accused of killing 6-year-old Hudson O’Loughlin after she allegedly ran over him while he was on his bicycle in a Pacific Beach alley.

San Diego Superior Court Judge Steven Stone ordered Tiffany Sanchez, 33, to stand trial for gross vehicular manslaughter, hit and run with death, and being an unlicensed driver in the Jan. 17 incident.

Sanchez, of National City, pleaded not guilty to all charges following the preliminary hearing on May 27, and she remains free on bond.

Sanchez allegedly struck the boy after she turned into an alley at Pacific Beach Drive and Ingraham Street. “She did not stop. She did not call 911,” said prosecutor Cassidy McWilliams.

“My office is committed to holding Miss Sanchez for that loss of life,” said McWilliams, a deputy district attorney.

If Sanchez is convicted of all charges, she faces a term of 12 years in state prison.

The parents of the boy, Matthew O’Laughlin and Juliana Kapovich, testified at the hearing along with two detectives and two other police officers. Photos of the area, the boy’s bicycle, and his helmet were submitted to the judge.

Hudson was a first-grader at a school in North Park. A bicycle was spray-painted white and was exhibited in the area as a “ghost bike,” a tradition honoring people who lost their lives on bicycles.

A number of people from the community marched in the area to show awareness of dangers to children.

She had been free on a $50,000 bond and was taken into custody again when the manslaughter charge was added, and her bail was increased. She was later able to post the increased bond amount.

Sanchez has a readiness conference set for July 27.
