Detectives with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office will Saturday host a public viewing of recovered stolen property in the hopes of returning those items to their rightful owners.
The items range from valuable comic books, sports collectibles, power tools and electronics. They were stolen from storage units in Vista, Oceanside and Escondido and recovered in October and November. They have an estimated value of around $1 million.
A second viewing is scheduled for Jan. 3.
Those attending will need to meet at least one of the following criteria to claim their property: Personal identification, Sheriff’s (or any law enforcement agency) Case Number, proof their name is on the item or a receipt with the item’s serial number.
If the people did not report the stolen item, but can prove it belongs to them, a report will be taken at the event. If the individual believes the stolen item is theirs, but can’t prove it, a sheriff’s deputy will take their information and contact them after the viewing is over, a statement from the Sheriff’s Office read.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Kearny Mesa at the Sheriff’s Investigations, Crime Lab, Property and Evidence Building, 5590 Overland Ave.
