A small plane landed on Interstate 805 Saturday afternoon, but all of its occupants escaped safely.

The plane landed at 5:38 p.m. in the southbound lanes at Carroll Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A witness told the CHP the white plane landed “facing sideways up against the center divider wall, blocking the center divider and the No. 1 lane.”

All southbound lanes were initially shut down and traffic was diverted off at Sorrento Valley Road, the CHP said.

At about 6:50 p.m., all but the HOV and No. 1 lanes were reopened. The remaining lanes were reopened at about 9 p.m.
