An SUV struck a large planter urn in Little Italy early Thursday, sending it careening into a building so hard that it caused structural damage.
San Diego police and San Diego Fire-Rescue said they responded to calls about an accident at Kettner Blvd. and Ivy St. at around 5:45 a.m., according to Onscene.Media.
When police arrived, they found the damaged vehicle in the middle of the road, along with a very heavy planter that had been sent into a building by the force of the crash.
The outside of the building that the planter struck shows cracks traveling up the storefront of Bobboi Natural Gelato.
The driver of the SUV told them that another car failed to stop at an intersection and hit his before fleeing the wrong way down Kettner Blvd., but law enforcement says that story did not add up. The investigation is continuing.
The planter is valued at approximately $10,000.
No one was injured. The investigation is continuing.
