A road rage incident turned into a life-threatening stabbing in El Cerrito on Thursday morning.

According to witnesses, the incident started when the victim did not allow the attacker’s car to merge in front of him while driving down 54th St. from University Avenue.

The driver and the suspect — his son — subsequently began to chase the victim’s car southbound on 54th St., according to Onscene.Media.

Every time the victim stopped his car for a red light, the attacker would jump out of the passenger’s seat and rush toward the vehicle, witnesses told Onscene.Media.

“He comes out, tries to fight, the other man takes out a knife, starts stabbing the Black male,” said Joshua Kamanzi, who said he took video of the incident.

The victim was stopped in traffic at Euclid Ave. and Federal Blvd. when the suspect rushed the car and hit the victim’s driver’s side mirror over and over again until it broke.

That prompted the victim to get out of his car to defend himself. In the ensuing fight, the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times in the chest, back, and stomach until the suspect’s father finally got out of his car and pulled them apart.

First responders transported the victim to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. His status is unknown at this time.

The father and son left the scene and were detained by police at Groveland Dr. and Euclid Avenue. The suspect was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The San Diego Police Department is investigating the incident.
